In this thesis, we examine the difficulties the translator of Arabic political theatre texts faces during translation to French. Therefore we have taken two theatrical texts as examples by the Syrian playwright Saad Allah Wannous: Ritual for a Metamorphosis ( ???????? ???? ?????????) and The Elephant, o King of Time! (?????? ??? ?? ?????). The first theatrical text was translated in 2013 by Rania Samara. Her translation will serve as an analytical tool for this research by highlighting the difficulties encountered during the translation of the theatrical text from Arabic into French. The second piece will play an essential part in this research and portray and be the practical part of our work as we will attempt to translate it into French and then justify our transition methods in a commentary. In the translation as well as in the analytical part of this research, I will use the communicational approach. According to semantics, the main ideas of the ‘Theory of Meaning’ will be presented beforehand to clarify the subject. In addition to the presentation of the communicative approach, this work will also include research on the career of Saad Allah Wannous. We will therefore study the most important stages of his career and their impact on his theater.
