Doctoral schools
When preparing their thesis at Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University, doctoral students can choose from seven doctoral schools (ED) in the field of human and social sciences.
Doctoral School of Law
The Doctoral School of Law “ED 492” is a multi-institution school, grouping together the Lumière Lyon 2, Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne universities.
It brings together legal experts specialising in private law and public law as well as legal historians.
The school is formed of nine research teams, including one joint research unit. It teaches nearly 370 doctoral students and supports the thesis defences of 45 doctoral students per year. It is headed by a Director assisted by a Board of 20 members.
ED 492 is part of the Doctoral College of the Lyon Community of Universities and Institutions (COMUE).
The school has several roles:
Various doctoral training courses and activities are proposed, enabling students to obtain the required credits.

- it organises yearly thesis monitoring committees;
- it offers mobility assistance to doctoral students.
Various doctoral training courses and activities are proposed, enabling students to obtain the required credits.

Doctoral School of Economics and Management Sciences
The University of Lyon Doctoral School n°486 specialises in Economics and Management Sciences. It brings together the economics and management sciences contract research teams from five institutions (Lyon 1, Lyon 2, Lyon 3, St ?tienne, ENS Lyon). Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University is the lead institution.

Doctoral School of Philosophy
The Doctoral School of Philosophy “History, Representation, Creation” - n° 487 PHCR - is a mono-disciplinary school. It is located on three sites:
Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University, which is the lead institution, and two partner institutions – the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS) and the Université Grenoble-Alpes (UGA).
Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and ENS are members of the University of Lyon, while UGA is part of the Grenoble Community of Universities and Institutions (COMUE).
The Doctoral School 487 was founded in 2007 and welcomes doctoral students from the Rh?ne-Alpes region, who develop their research across a broad range of topics: history of philosophy, contemporary philosophy, logic and the philosophy of science, ethics, aesthetics, political philosophy, and history and the epistemology of cognitive sciences.

Doctoral School of Humanities, Languages, Linguistics and Arts
The Doctoral School of Humanities, Languages, Linguistics and Arts (3LA) was founded through the joint accreditation of Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University, Lyon 2 University (support institution), ENS Lyon (humanities and social sciences faculties) [BR1] and Jean Monnet Saint-?tienne University. The 3LA Doctoral School is part of the PRES (Lyon and Saint-?tienne Research and Higher Education cluster) doctoral college.
Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University offers nearly 130 doctoral students a range of 11 specialist topics. The five research teams and strong supervisory team (48 research directors) help students to hone their research skills, while ensuring that their theses are monitored under the best conditions.
